Getting an image of the green river has been something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m so glad that I finally did it!!
I did a quick search online and found a bit of info about it to share with you! :)
St. Patrick’s Day Parade/River Dyeing. The Chicago River goes green as 45 pounds of vegetable dye color the water between Columbus and Wacker drives.
> Traveling the river between Wabash Avenue and Columbus Drive, a large boat snakes across the waterway dumping powder. Green sheen: It takes about 45 minutes for the river to turn completely green. Depending on which direction the wind is blowing, the water can stay green for up to a few days.
> At first they used 100 pounds of dye and the river stayed green for a week. (The river is normally a murky green color.) Now the plumbers just use 40 pounds of dye. The powder is actually orange when it goes into the water and it turns green when it mixes with the water.
